What are some of the advantages of outsourcing our fulfillment?

Economies of scale, the hiring and training of employees, real estate and storage facilities are just the tip of the costly iceberg when doing product fulfillment in-house. An even bigger cost is the time you spend managing fulfillment. Utilizing a fulfillment service allows you to spend your valuable time for marketing and creating new salable products. Is the Intrepid Group a distributor?

We are a fulfillment center, not a distributor. This means you are responsible for the sales and marketing of your products. Consider us as an extension of your shipping department.

How long has the Intrepid Group been in the fulfillment business?

The Intrepid Group was started in 1982 in a one-car garage. Today we have over 56,000 square feet of warehouse space in two locations here in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Where is the Intrepid Group located?

We are strategically located on the front range of the beautiful Rocky Mountains in Fort Collins, Colorado. Our location offers significant savings in freight and postage costs to the entire country. Our location is almost halfway between Denver and Cheyenne, Wyoming. Both cities are major transportation hubs. Our location enables us to be close to both cities, but far enough away to realize lower real estate costs, as well as labor costs, thus enabling us to keep our rates lower.

Do you insist on a long-term contract with your clients?

No. Our agreement is a little more than a handshake. If you are unhappy with us for any reason, we want to know. So, whatever the reason or if business demands a change in your plans, we will understand. We only ask that you give us 60 days notice.

Do you have a set-up fee?

No. From time to time certain clients have asked for and received special services such as additional computer requirements. We spell out any additional fees well in advance so that there are no surprises.

Does the Intrepid Group work with start-up companies? I just have a few products!

Absolutely. One of our largest clients started with us almost 20 years ago, with just a handful of titles. Today, their sales are in excess of $20 million. We have helped them grow, and they have helped us grow. We want to do the same for you!

Can Intrepid handle a seasonal rush of orders?

Yes, we do several times a year. Colorado State University is located here in Fort Collins and affords us a large pool of young, energetic workers that can be brought in quickly. And a word about the workers we get. Being an agricultural school, CSU has many students from the Plains and Mid-West that still maintain a work ethic that is head and shoulders above young adults found in other parts of our country.

What is the difference between “Pick and Pack” and “Complete Order Processing?”

Briefly, “Pick and Pack’ is when you or your web site receive the order and process the invoicing before transmitting the details to our warehouse. “Complete Order Processing” is when we receive the order (from you or directly from your web site, or via the mails, telephone, or faxes. We then enter your order into our order processing software, generate invoices and packing slips, and then send your order to our warehouse for the picking and packing and shipping. [For a more detailed explanation, please click here.]

How do we transmit orders to the Intrepid Group?

We can receive orders a wide variety of ways; electronically (from your web site), email, telephone, faxes and of course, the mail. We even have several local clients drop by occasionally with some orders.

Does the publisher still own the books and products in your warehouse?

Yes, your inventory belongs to you.

Who decides how an item is shipped?

You do, but often with our advice. We recently heard of a client with another fulfillment company being charged regularly $11 for single book orders (sent FedEx) after she had repeatedly asked that her books be sent Media Mail ($2.64). Often, fulfillment companies look after their interests rather than their clients. We are in constant contact with our clients, helping them save their resources wherever possible.

Does the Intrepid Group offer kitting and assembly services?

Yes. Of course pricing will vary from job to job, but we will be happy to quote you pricing if the need arises.

Are you a call center and do you accept toll-free 800 calls?

No, after 25 years of working with numerous call centers (from the nation’s largest to much small operations) we have come to the conclusion that a good, quality service does not exist. We enjoy what we do. Product fulfillment is important work and we take it very seriously. Many clients have asked us why we don’t offer 24/7 call center services. In a nutshell, it is a very tough end of the business that we don’t feel is worth your money. [For more details, and a few recommendations, click here.]

Are there any books or products that you will not work with?

Yes, we will not handle pornographic, illegal or hazardous materials.

What marketing reports do you offer Complete Order Processing clients?

Just make a notation on your questionnaire, and we will mail you a set of sample reports.

What does it cost to use your services?

Every client is different and has different needs. We tailor our pricing based upon a wide variety of demands on our services. [Please fill out the short questionnaire here, and we will rush you a quote.]

How does technology fit into your fulfillment operations?

While we certainly recognize technology’s role in an efficient fulfillment operation, our management team will always use a hands-on approach in day-to-day activities.

Do you ship international orders?

Yes, all the time. In fact, one of our larger clients ships over 20% of their products internationally.

Do you have a minimum monthly order level?

Yes, but it is kept as low as possible to help smaller, start-up companies get their products and marketing up to speed. And again, the pricing depends on the amount and variety of products to be stored, the shipping activity we can expect and several other factors that we determine from the questionnaire you complete.

Can you add promotional flyers and brochures to my outgoing orders?

Yes, and we encourage and do not charge an additional fee for your flyers, catalogs or brochures. Inserting promotional material is almost like “Point of Sale” selling. Doing so helps both of us grow. And we view ourselves as partners in your enterprise.

Is our inventory insured while in your warehouse?

It is your responsibility to obtain “off-site” inventory coverage from your insurance agent. It is usually offered at a very reasonable rate.

What carriers do you work with?

You name it, and they show up every day at our locations. And during certain times of the year, some carriers will make pickups into the evening hours! United Parcel Service, FedEx, ABF Freight, FedEx Freight, United States Postal Service are regulars, to name just a few.

Is an annual physical inventory included?

Yes, with both “Pick and Pack” and “Complete Order Processing.

We would like to come visit your facility, is that okay?

Absolutely. The coffee is always fresh and we would love to see you and hear about your operation.
